For a complete presentation of the analysis carried out, a list of all input data, however provided or generated, is required, such as to uniquely define the geometric, mechanical and load characteristics of the scheme and model, sufficiently detailed to allow third parties an independent re-elaboration of the problem. This list must be produced by the computer preferably during the processing phase itself and must be supplemented by the indications relating to: symbology, unit of measurement; conventions on local and global references, on the sign of stress characteristics and displacement components. Where appropriate, the resistance criterion adopted must be indicated. With reference to discretized finite element structures, the list of input data must include:
– proper periods, type of modal superposition used, modal deformations related to the different modes of vibrations and associated participating masses and participation coefficients.
If the complete printout of displacements and stresses is attached, it is advisable to highlight the values relating to the selected verification sections. It is the freedom of the designer to choose to attach such information either in paper format or in electronic format (preferred choice).
The maintenance plan of the structures is the complementary document to the structural project which foresees, plans and programs, taking into account the executive design documents of the entire work, the maintenance activity of the intervention in order to maintain its functionality over time, the characteristics of quality, efficiency and economic value. The maintenance plan of the structures – coordinated with the general construction plan – is an essential part of the structural design. It is mandatory for both public and private works and is used for:
– establish the frequency and duration of checks and inspections on individual structural elements, also according to the intended use;
– predict the elementary costs of identified maintenance and ancillary services (design, construction management, surveillance, etc.);
– define the annual cost estimate for maintenance and checks (the cost analysis generally refers to the short term even if the annual maintenance plan can extend to the medium and long term depending on the characteristics of the elements).

It defines the methods for carrying out all the operations aimed at preserving the structural elements, which do not require specialist knowledge and for promptly recognizing anomalous deterioration phenomena in order to foresee the need for any specialized interventions. The maintenance manual refers to the maintenance of the elements that make up the structure. It provides, in relation to the various structural elements, the characteristics of the materials or components involved, the information necessary for correct maintenance as well as for the use of suitably qualified companies, assistance or service centers. It contains the following information:
– the description of the resources necessary for the maintenance intervention, and related safety and environmental requirements;
The maintenance program governs the system of interventions and checks to be carried out, at time intervals or otherwise pre-established, in order to ensure the correct functioning of the structural elements over the years.
It defines the service level standard of the structural elements through the analysis of the performances provided and the measurement of the degradation of the elements, obtained from the trend of the events that have already occurred and from the functionality prospects defined at the time of purchase / implementation.
